Biological testing and research for reptiles and amphibians . The Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program, NHESP, of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife , MassWildlife, is seeking to fund population assessments, radiotelemetry, and GPS tag deployment of Blandings Turtle populations in Essex County during March to June 2024, as part of a project to evaluate road crossing hotspots and road crossing behavior in this threatened species. The primary goal of this contract is to conduct trap based and visual surveys for individual Blandings Turtles during a compressed spring season, and to purchase and deploy a target of 20 GPS and VHF tags, up to $26,000, on adult Blandings Turtles. The vendor will work closely with project partners at MassWildlife and MassDOT to develop a schedule of effort during March to June 2024. The successful applicant will identify survey sites in consultation with the NHESP State Herpetologist and will work closely with project partners throughout the season. The GPS tags should ideally be deployed within a matrix of different road crossings including state highways such as SR-133, SR-97, SR-114, SR-125, SR-110.
