Item Information

Item # 1:   ( 51-20  -  16 )   DPH is seeking expedited collective purchasing for COVID point-of-care tests due to the public health emergency. The Department of Public Health has been provided with a notice from DHHS indicating that each state will be able to purchase COVID point-of-care diagnostic tests starting with the Abbot BinaxNow test, through the Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) program. Massachusetts will be allocated 166,080 tests per month, and 4,152 control kits per month. The initial allocation of these tests was distributed by DHHS to states, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This allocation will end mid-January. Going forward, DHHS is providing a streamlined process for states to purchase COVID point-of-care diagnostic tests, starting with the Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen test, through a federal contract. Through a contract between the federal government and Abbott Diagnostics Scarborough, Inc., states will be able to purchase tests at the best negotiated federal rate through an existing Federal Supply Schedule program.
