These Specifications describe requirements for the procurement of timber crossties to be used on the rail lines owned by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Crossties shall meet, in every respect, Specifications of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) contained in the Manual for Railway Engineering, Volume 1, Chapter 30, Part 3, as modified by the Technical Specifications herein.
