Item # 1: ( 72-12 - 14 )
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) is seeking proposals for a space survey and planning framework tool to guide the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program?s mission in improving public library facilities in Massachusetts. Space is becoming an increasingly valuable resource, construction costs are rising, and funding for the Commonwealth?s libraries has been in decline for over a decade; at the same time, library usage and the demand for library services has been steadily increasing. Physical library space needs are changing rapidly and dramatically, rendering traditional space guidelines obsolete. A strategic space planning lens, informed by good data, knowledge of trends, and foresight into future needs, is crucial to guide the MBLC in ensuring that it meets the goals of the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program in ways that are fiscally responsible and culturally and socially relevant.
